Male Athlete of the Year - Ace Sanders
BRADENTON - One of the toughest things to do is whittle down the male and female athletes of the year. Vladimir Orphee, Bensley Melidor, Brion Carnes, Danny Zarrella, Brandon Tarpley...all great candidates. But our ABC 7 Male High School Athlete of the Year for the 2009-2010 year is football star Ace Sanders of Manatee High School.

SARASOTA - It was so hard to choose an ABC 7 Female High School Athlete of the Year, but 2009-2010's Female Athlete of the Year is diver Alissa Zetzman.

Athlete of the Week May 6th - Sam Messer
SARASOTA - The Sarasota Sailors will play in the high school softball state final four next Friday. One big reason they are there is pitcher Sam Messer. She is our ABC 7 High School Athlete of the Week.

BRADENTON - Two Suncoast gymnasts returned from Clemson University this past weekend with regional championships. Matt Frey and Paige Carper are our ABC 7 Athletes of the Week.

SARASOTA - Our ABC 7 High School Athlete of the Week is a numbers guy, and right now Sarasota High's Jimmie Koch is counting the number of days until he can return to the line-up.

Athlete of the Week April 15th - Gabi Edelman
ARCADIA - Gabi Edelman has played many sports. And most importantly she has balanced her school work to excel in the classroom, winning district and regional science fairs. Gabi also fits in volunteer work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Now she is also the ABC 7 High School Athlete of the Week.
